Annual and Monthly Fees

At a recent Committee Meeting, it was agreed that both the Monthly Subscription and Annual Registration costs would be increased from their current level. During the merger, it was agreed that the monthly cost would be set at £16 per month, which represented only a small increase from the Bingham SC level (£14 per month) whilst being advantageous to Calverton SC members over their pay-as-you-swim fees. In addition, it was agreed to keep the annual registration costs at previous years levels. This was a move to encourage members to continue to commit themselves to CABSC and it was agreed that the savings that both clubs had built over the years would be used to subsidise the first six months for members. However, during the 2007/2008 financial year, a number of exceptional charges were absorbed by the Club, which meant that over £10,000 was spent above and beyond the revenue collected from Subscriptions and Registration fees.

Why do we need to increase our Monthly Subscriptions?

The monthly costs that are being paid by the Club have increased since the merger; these costs include the following: -

1) Gala Costs – The Club has a very busy and successful fixture list which drives a substantial amount of cost into the club, for example, the provision of buses, Club Coach passes and the need to train more volunteers to help at both internal and external galas.

2) Pool Time – CABSC have an enormous amount of swimming pool time spread across six pools. The addition of land training and Meetings at the Leisure Centre have driven our monthly costs higher. Within the new subscription costs, an assumption of a 10% rise in pool costs is built in. However, no new swimming pool time has been budgeted for 2008.

3) Further Development of the Club – in order to both continue to compete within the Midlands area, as well as to improve the development of our swimmers, we have an amount of money budgeted to provide a number of specific swim clinics. In line with the recent Breaststroke clinic, there will be more coaching and more training given to our coaches during 2008, which will need to be paid for.

4) Water Polo – this has and will continue to be completely subsidised by CABSC. This gives every swimmer (adult and youth) the opportunity to try a new sport for no increase in subscriptions at all. Added to this, the ability to compete in Water Polo matches against other clubs is provided. Please feel free to come along to the two training sessions provided by the Club.

Relative to every other swimming club within Nottinghamshire and outside, we’re still more than comparable for the coaching and development opportunities offered to our swimmers. An equivalent swimmer within Northampton would be paying over twice the subscription level that CABSC swimmers pay currently, for less pool time!

New Annual Registration Charges (effective from 1st April 2008)

At the beginning of February 2008, you will be contacted by Marc Needham (Registration Secretary) about the Registration Renewal for the forthcoming year. As the result of increased ASA fees and administrative costs for the Club, it has been necessary to increase the Annual Registration fees. However, the maximum rise in each category is £5 per year, which equates to approximately 10p per week! Whilst any increase is regrettable, it is worth pointing out that Annual Registration fees have been held for two years, whilst ASA and administration costs have risen. Therefore, the Club considers that a rise this year is appropriate. The revised Annual Registration fees are as follows:

 Type of Member Annual Fee
 Category 1 & 2 £35
Each additional category 1 or 2 member in the same family £30
 Category 3 £10
Student (over 18 and in full time, further education) £5

I hope you’ll all agree that despite the increase in costs, the fees charged by CABSC still represents excellent value for money for the members of the Club. However, for the revised Monthly Subscription, we do need your support in changing your current Standing Orders, effective from 1st February 2008, to the new amounts. If you have any queries at all about the Subscriptions changes, please feel free to chat to me at the shop at Bingham on Monday evenings, or drop me a line at andy.wallace@tdxgroup.com
